The Story Behind
The artwork "Genève, Quai Gustave-Ador" is part of a unique collection created especially for the jeweler and watchmaker Bucherer 1888.
The artwork captures an emblematic sight of Geneva, that of the Left Bank and the Gustave Ador Quay, crowned by the peaks of the Môle, the Mont-Blanc and the Salève, three mountains dear to the hearts of the residents of Geneva.
Through the historical figure of Gustave Ador, this landscape celebrates the influence of Geneva on Switzerland and the world. As Guillaume Henri Dufour before him, Gustave Ador remains a great figure who contributed to the cohesion of the country during the troubled times of the First World War, when Switzerland was seeking its place in a Europe in the midst of confrontation.
He was also, as was Henri Dunant this time, a figure who offered Switzerland a central role in the world community. His diplomatic talents gave him a real international stature and put Geneva on the map so well that it became, largely at his instigation, the headquarters of the League of Nations, the mother of the United Nations.
President of the ICRC for nearly 20 years and initiator of the Prisoners of War Agency, he accompanied the establishment in Geneva of a large number of world organizations. International Geneva owes him a lot. This artwork is the first piece in the Atelier WOCS collection that is designed without lettering.
