CONDITIONS OF PRESERVATION

Each tableau created by Atelier WOCS is conceived as a cultural object. Its preservation ensures the continuity of intent, material integrity, and visual language. The following principles are recommended for all compositions held in private collections.

LIGHT

Exposure to ultraviolet light can provoke irreversible chemical changes in materials. Natural daylight is particularly aggressive over time. When possible, reduce exposure to direct sunlight and favour artificial lighting with UV filtration.


CLIMATE STABILITY

A stable climate is essential. Variations in temperature and humidity can cause microscopic movement within the composition, weakening its materials. We recommend maintaining a constant temperature around 20°C ±1°C, with relative humidity of 50% ±3%.


DUST AND AIR QUALITY

Dust consists of abrasive particles that can alter a surface by contact alone. Some airborne substances, including insect debris or industrial pollutants, may contain acids or contaminants harmful to the tableau’s surface or framing. Regular, careful dusting (without friction) is advised. Avoid exposure to open airflows, smoke, or food preparation areas.

 

TRANSPORT AND HANDLING

Always transport your Atelier WOCS collection in protective crates to prevent impact or vibration. For larger pieces or significant relocations, we recommend engaging professionals in art logistics. If the tableau is unglazed, avoid all direct contact with the surface. Handling must be done with cotton gloves, and only by individuals familiar with conservation protocols.

PLACEMENT AND HANGING

Environmental placement plays a vital role in long-term preservation. Avoid hanging near external walls, direct sunlight, spotlights, radiators, ventilation ducts, bathrooms, or kitchens. Avoid areas with fluctuating humidity or high traffic where accidental contact is possible. Framing offers structural protection, but prevention remains the best preservation.


IN CASE OF ALTERNATION OR DAMAGE

Do not attempt to clean or repair a damaged tableau. Surface treatments are delicate and may be irreparably altered by improper intervention. If deterioration is observed, please contact Atelier WOCS or a certified conservation specialist. Each composition requires expertise and discretion in its care.
