Creation Details

Lausanne-Ouchy, La Vaudoise is an Atelier WOCS creation, celebrating the enduring legacy of Lake Geneva’s sailing heritage.

Singularly handcrafted in the Geneva ateliers, this composition pays tribute to La Vaudoise, the last surviving Latin sail vessel of its kind, a symbol of maritime tradition and the spirit of preservation.

Produced in a limited edition of 50 numbered pieces, each work is authenticated by the Maison’s seal, individually signed, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Story Behind

A symbol of continuity on the waters of Lake Geneva, La Vaudoise evokes an era when the lake served not only as a mirror of the Alps, but as a vital artery of commerce and craftsmanship. Built in 1932 in Bret-Locum under the name La Violette, she is the last surviving barque of her kind, a vessel once dedicated to transporting stone, sand, and timber between shores.

With its distinctive Latin rigging and twin sails, La Vaudoise embodies a maritime language now vanished from daily use. In 1948, as the age of commercial sailing ended, she was preserved by the Confrérie des Pirates d’Ouchy, a visionary act led by Dr. Francis Marius Messerli to safeguard a vanishing tradition.

Renamed La Vaudoise, the barque became more than a vessel: a floating relic of Vaudois heritage, an emblem of Ouchy’s identity, and a living monument to the cultural memory of the lake. She still sails each summer, tracing slow arcs across the water, not merely as a spectacle, but as an inheritance, maintained with devotion by those who understand that memory, too, must be navigated.
