The Story Behind
Arosa, a winter and summer sports resort set in the heart of a mountain panorama, is the glamorous destination par excellence in eastern Switzerland. The resort developed at the end of the 19th century out of small mountain village and was only connected by road in 1890. A few years later, in 1914, a mountain train was built to bring passengers from Chur, the capital of the canton of Graubünden. Similarly to Crans-Montana, in the Valais, it became a famous health resort during the Belle Epoque, with the construction of several luxury sanatoriums.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, skiers have been enjoying the nearby slopes of the resort. In 2013, their playground doubled with the construction of a cable car that connects Arosa to its neighbor Lenzerheide. The ski area is now one of the largest in Switzerland.
To compete with Arosa, one has to strike hard. And that's exactly what the Ferrari 250 did when it hit the roads in 1952! Its emblematic V12 "Colombo" engine, much lighter than those of the competition, gives its name to the car, as the volume of each cylinder is 250 cm3. It will allow the 250 series to win many races in the 50s and 60s. Myth among myths, the 250 GTO is the most famous representative of the 250 series, but the artist has chosen to honor its older sister, the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB ("Short Wheel Base"). It is the first 250 in production* to have a short wheelbase (2400mm), which gives it even better handling.
