Atelier WOCS at the 42nd Bal de Malte

Atelier WOCS at the Bal de Malte

An Evening of Legacy and Philanthropy

Atelier WOCS was honored to take part in the 42nd Bal de Malte, an evening dedicated to tradition, philanthropy, and cultural preservation at the Bellevue Palace in Bern. This prestigious event, supporting the Swiss Hospital Service of the Order of Malta (SHOMS), brought together those who recognize that heritage gains meaning when it continues to shape the future.

For this occasion, Atelier WOCS, in collaboration with the Latécoère Foundation, contributed to this mission with a creation that now enriches the Foundation’s art collection: “Château Royal de Cazeneuve, Laté 28”, a limited edition of 25 pieces that intertwines the legacy of European nobility and the pioneers of early aviation.

A Legacy Rooted in Nobility

The Château Royal de Cazeneuve, once home to King Henri IV and Queen Margot, has long stood as a sentinel of French history. It has witnessed centuries of diplomacy, artistry, and lineage, and remains closely tied to the Latécoère family's own heritage.

This heritage traces back to the noble House of Sabran, an ancient Provençal lineage that carried the title of Dukes of Sabran. Through this descent, the Latécoère family belongs to a history shaped by both aristocracy and ambition.

These echoes of lineage are subtly woven into the details of the artwork. The coat of arms of the House of Sabran can be seen on the tail of the Latécoère 28, while the aircraft’s registration carries discreet references to the family’s noble heritage

The Latécoère 28 stands as a symbol of this enduring spirit. Immortalized by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Vol de Nuit, it became an icon of early aviation. In 1930, Jean Mermoz piloted it across the South Atlantic, a milestone that redefined the limits of what was possible. A testament to resilience, vision, and the pursuit of new frontiers.

The Latécoère Foundation Legacy

Preserving History Matters Most when it Drives the Future Forward.

Commissioned by the Latécoère Foundation, this piece stands as a tribute to those who shaped history and to those who ensure its preservation.

Unveiled at the Bal de Malte, the Atelier WOCS creation serves as a reminder that heritage is not just about looking back, it is about carrying history forward, ensuring that its significance is never lost.
