Located on a sunny plateau, just above the picturesque valley of the Val de Bagnes at 1500 meters above sea level: Verbier! The internationally renowned resort has an excellent reputation, it could even be in the top 10 of the most popular stations in the world! Its immense ski area, its fabulous powder and its challenging off-piste terrain make it the resort of champions, but not only: its festive and friendly atmosphere also makes its reputation as well as its chic and elegant clientele.

The resort partly built its reputation with the Verbier Xtreme and its legendary Bec des Rosses. Over a million visitors come to Verbier each year to ski, play golf or simply enjoy the magnificent mountain panoramas. Verbier is a breeding ground for beautiful properties, magnificent chalets that adorn the mountain, always in the architectural spirit of the Alps. These architectural lines inspired the artist to imagine this particular scene. Namely, in the 1970s, the Lamborghini Countach had gone from the concept car stage to a limited production, which over the years elevated the model to a symbol status in popular culture. Its design in a brutal and tense style challenged and intrigued. But nowadays, who happens to be a symbol of going against the main stream, if not Tesla?

Presented by Elon Musk on November 22, 2019 in Los Angeles, the Tesla Cybertruck is a 100% electric pickup that goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, a performance never seen before in this category.

What draws attention first is its design, with ultra-taut lines that won't leave you indifferent. It’s been much mocked on the internet, including by big brands like Lego who even created a parodic advertisment. The Cybertruck is part of a futuristic vision explored by coachbuilders for decades, and in particular by coachbuilders Bertone and Ital Design in the 70s. The Cybertruck is thus inspired by the great classic designer Giorgetto Giugiaro (Ital Design) who designed the Lotus Esprit from 1972 (the car that turns into a submarine in the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me) and the DeLorean DMC-12 (Back to the future). But this is the first time that this type of extreme design has been proposed for a vehicle that will be mass produced. Note that Tesla dominates the market in Switzerland, it is the fourth most registered vehicle in Switzerland, all categories combined. Needless to say, the Cybertruck could well become a potential replacement for current 4x4s in the Swiss alps.

To conclude, what makes the artwork unique and particularly interesting is that the Tesla Cybertruck was imagined on the basis of the vision of the future from the past, but re-interpreted in the present. The artist's creative approach is the opposite; he transforms his artwork into a vision of the past, by representing the current vision of a past form of art, re-actualized. These two opposites form a link and give birth to this unique artwork in the collection.
