Designed by the Danish architect Knud Reimers (1906-1987) in 1946, and built in 1947 for General Guisan, the Swiss 8m JI Glana was designed for shorter cruises. Within the large family of the "International Gauge", the 8m JI are among the most prised (the kings of Spain had their favor).

With an average length of 14 meters, they provide a decent habitability without requiring a large crew. About 500 have been built since 1907 and according to the International Eight Register, 177 are sailing today. The 8m JI was an Olympic boat from 1908 to 1936 and was even allowed some audacity since it was a derelict 8m JI that Vito Dumas bought in Arcachon in 1931 and regrew as a yawl for a crossing of the Atlantic in 5 stages and 76 days, a performance that leaves one dreaming today.

The artwork honors this mythical sailboat registered Z4 overlooking the panorama of Mont Blanc. It is currently the most awarded boat in the Bol d'Or Mirabaud of Lake Geneva with 8 victories between 1949 and 1968.
